Individual Development
Whilst much of our work is focussed in supporting authorities or work at a regional level, our approach is firmly rooted in the belief that effective development is shaped around the individual’s needs.
Developing organisational talent and supporting individuals reach their potential is top of the agenda for local authorities, but development is a partnership. Forward thinking employers want to build a learning culture where people direct and shape their own learning.
Taking responsibility for your own learning means…
- Asking for feedback, and asking focussed questions to gather information, getting specific examples and areas for improvement.
- Seeing development as more that attending programmes, being clear about how you learn.
- Creating learning opportunities, eg setting up shadowing opportunities, stretch projects providing new experiences.
- Critically reflect on practice, asking questions of your self, eg how would you rate your performance, what did you do well and where could you have improved?
- Seeking people you can learn from, and building a network of supportive relationships.
- Taking action, setting goals for yourself - where do you want to be in one year, two years?
In supporting individuals and developers, we have a range of resources and tools to assist with the process of shaping personal learning agendas. These are:
