Introducing the Equality and Diversity Gateway
The Equality Gateway was established in September 2008, and will be delivered through North West Employers on behalf of the North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership (NWIEP). Much of the Gateway activity has been driven by the findings from the NWIN Phase One Equality and Diversity Project, which were published in April 2008. The research recommendations were based on findings from 24 North West local authorities and an analysis of how equality and diversity was being approached and developed across a range of authorities.
This Equality and Diversity Gateway is an exciting new initiative that will support authorities in meeting the equality and diversity outcomes in their regional and sub-regional Improvement and Efficiency Strategies. We are here to offer direct support, lead innovation and learn from each other. The Gateway will have a key role in sharing good practice and will provide a ‘one stop shop’ for innovative ideas, information and advice. It will support a community of practitioners, of Officers and Elected Members, and raise awareness of equality and diversity across the region.
The work of the Gateway will be overseen and directed by a newly established Regional Equality Steering Group, with links to sub-regional structures and priorities. The Steering Group is comprised of Elected Members, Officers, NWIEP representatives from the sub regions, and 4NW.
We are committed to holding regular Officer and Member focus groups across the five sub regions to determine sub-regional and regional needs, so that we can continue to tailor our support and assistance.
