2009 Awards
On 20 May 2009 we held our third Celebration Event for the Equality and Diversity Awards at the Lowry Hotel, Manchester. Almost 100 people joined us and took the opportunity to browse around the marketplace of authorities showcasing their achievements and successful submissions.
We once again had an overwhelming 30+ submissions, of which 12 met the North West Employers criteria, from authorities/partner organisations in the North West.
The authorities receiving the Award this year were:
Halton x 2 – Fishing Club and Welcomes Audit.
Lancashire – Colleagues not functions, Business Case not targets.
Merseyside Fire – Refugee and Asylum Seeker Advocacy.
Oldham – Dance Platform.
Preston – Social Inclusion through Sport.
Sefton x 2 – Holocaust memorial Project and The Ability Project.
Stockport – Employment for people with learning disabilities.
Tameside x 2 – Girls Active and Local Employment Partnership Initiative.
Wyre – Hate Crime.
The event was co-sponsored by the North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership (NWIEP) and, for the second year, the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC).

The CWDC once again made their own award presented by Nicky Horn to Preston City Council for Social Inclusion through Sport, for being the most innovative submission relating to Children’s Services.
Our keynote speaker was Colin Parry, Chair of the Tim Parry, Jonathan Ball Foundation for Peace. Colin was also interviewed on our podcast, along with each authority regarding their individual submission.
