Facilitating Action Learning and Large Groups

We are strong advocates of action learning as a process, as it blends learning with real life outcomes. Action learning is an approach pioneered by Reg Revans in the 1960s, which uses the experience and knowledge of managers in small groups to improve their performance.

Action learning is undertaken in small sets with a facilitator, and we have experience of facilitating sets with managers from both the public and private sectors. Examples of where we have established and facilitated sets are:

  • Adult Service Managers.
  • Cross-authority groups of Senior Managers.
  • District Council Chief Executive and Leaders.
  • Learning sets as part of Middle Manager programmes.
As partnership working and multi-agency work becomes part of the fabric of local governance, local authorities often wish to bring together all the stakeholders in one place. We design and facilitate events for large groups tailored to meet your needs.

Examples include:

  • Cross-authority events.
  • Local Strategic Partnerships away-days.
  • Visioning exercise with partners.
  • Whole organisation change events.
