Bullying and Harassment Contacts

Many recipients of harassment remain silent for a variety of reasons – guilt, fear of losing a job, a belief that no-one will believe them, a fear of the situation getting worse if they complain. The reasons are many and vary from one individual to another, but what is clear is that for many recipients not being able to confide in another person is high on the list.

Harassment Contacts is not a new idea and has been successfully introduced into other organisations. The broad aim is to act as a point of contact for people who believe they are being harassed and to offer support, listen and explain the policy.

The position requires empathetic understanding, integrity, emotional maturity, resilience as well as a thorough knowledge of the Harassment Policy. It also needs considerable skill in terms of listening, attending, questioning, and challenging and action skills. In order to develop the required skills and to examine the role on the Contact Officer a full and comprehensive two-day programme is available. Click the link below for an example programme.
