The North West Region is delighted to have been chosen ‘PPMA Region of the Year 2008’ in recognition of the work undertaken across the region to build capacity in the HR function.

Receiving the Award
The HR Gateway was launched just over a year ago and has been a huge success, attracting over 300 HR practitioners to register at the Gateway. The Gateway project has been supported and funded by NWIN as part of their commitment to supporting effective people management in the North West. North West Employers manages the Gateway and continues to extend the offer and provide innovative approaches to supporting the HR community in the North West.

The Gateway offers a number of elements available to HR employees across the North West and PPMA members have participated in a Post Graduate Certificate in Executive and Business Coaching; Action Learning sets; and the MA in Strategic HR.

The HR Forum is part of the wider HR Development Gateway developed and delivered by North West Employers after consultation with partners including the North West Region PPMA.

“We are proud of our partnership with North West Employers in delivering the HR Development Forum and would particularly like to thank Kelli Pickford, the HR Gateway Adviser for all her hard work.”
Alyson Doyle – Chair of PPMA North West Region

The HR Development Network has held three full-day events to date with topics including: Engaging with the Gateway; the Future of Local Government and its Impact on People; and Beyond the White Paper – the Government’s policy for local governance. Further events are currently being arranged.

The region is also involved in a partnership with the North West and Yorkshire & Humberside PPMA Regions and North West Employers, North East Regional Employers’ Organisation and Local Government Yorkshire & Humber to arrange an annual Northern HR Briefing held in Harrogate each September. This 24-hour event has become a tradition and is now it its twelfth successful year. It is open to all HR practitioners in the three regions working in local government and is a fantastic opportunity to network and update knowledge.

The options available to members of the North West region continue to ensure HR capacity in the North West is both nurtured and encouraged.
