The Get On North West - Local Government Skills for Life Award was launched at North West Employers' Annual Meeting on 26 July 2006.
The award is a key plank of our regional strategy and asks authorities to make a commitment to improving the Skills for Life of the whole workforce. To achieve the Award authorities must meet eight standards. Full details are outlined in the Guidance Notes below.

“We see improving the Skills for Life of our workforce as a key part of our drive for continuous improvement. Skills for Life is often seen as a side issue but we are positioning it as part of our service improvement and developing talent agenda. At Wirral we see the benefits of taking an approach that embraces the whole authority and see Skills for Life as part of our people and organisational development strategy” Steve Maddox, Chief Executive, Wirral MBC.
Improving Skills for Life is an important key to transforming the services authorities deliver, in terms of re-modelling jobs and develo

ping talent for our future needs. Working with trade union partners locally will be an important feature of developing a vibrant, productive and committed workforce for the future. There are already many examples of excellent joint working, particularly through Trade Union Learning Representatives with a commitment to the Skills for Life agenda. Denis Ashton, Learning Representative from Warrington Borough Council was presented with a Get On Union Learning Representative Award by Kriss Akabusi at the National Skills for Life Gala event organised by the IDeA.
