Regional Partners
Improving Skills for Life of the workforce is a key priority for local government, and the Get On North West Award is the focus of the work of our regional partners. The success of the award will make a significant contribution to delivering economic and social benefits to the North West. The key regional partners are listed below.
North West Employers
“Local authorities are taking a lead on improving the Skills for Life of the people in their workforce because of the clear benefits for them as employers, but also in terms of improving services to the communities they serve.
“Local government in the North West employs around 308,000 people and by improving the skills and confidence of their workforce they will also be making significant contributions in terms of local economies and to improving the lives of their employees and their families.
“There are fantastically inspiring stories from across the region where improving the literary or numeracy of people has made a real difference, and North West Employers wants to do what it can to support authorities do even more.”
Liz McQue, Chief Executive, North West Employers
Campaign for Learning
"Our ethos is that everyone has a right to learn throughout their lives, and as most of us spend a large part of our life at work our employer plays a key role in enabling this. When a local authority commits to the GO Award, the message they're sending out is that they want their employees to be the best they can be - and are willing to help them get there."
Marie Easom, Campaign for Learning
Learning and Skills Council – LSC
“Improving the skills of workers in the public sector is one of the LSC’s top priorities, not least because it employs a quarter of the UK’s workforce. This Award is for those local authorities that have recognised the important part that Skills for Life plays within their workforce development strategies. We hope it will also encourage other employers to follow that example and embed Skills for Life in a sustainable way.”
Paul Holme, Regional Skills Director, NW LSC
North West Regional Development Agency – NWRDA
“Basic Skills are vital for individual fulfilment and the continuing success of our region’s economy. The Agency and its partners are enthusiastically keen that a real focus is maintained on the Basic Skills agenda. These awards will assist in this.”
Steven Broomhead, NWDA
unionlearn - North West TUC
"unionlearn is delighted to be working with this important initiative. Union Learning Representatives play a key role in helping their employers to improve skills, and nowhere have they been more effective than in improving skills for life. We look forward to supporting the GO Award and to developing our partnership with the North West Employers."
