HR Development Forum
On 12 June 2009 we held our eighth HR Development Forum event at the JJB Stadium in Wigan, this time centring on Employee Engagement. Nita Clarke, Director of the Involvement and Participation Association (IPA), joined us to speak about the findings of the upcoming report to the Government on Employee Engagement, which she worked on with David MacLeod. Raffaela Goodby and Suzanne Wood, from Birmingham City Council and Lancashire County Council respectively, also spoke about Employee Engagement from a local authority perspective, and the achievements within their organisations. All of their presentations are available now by clicking on the links below.

The day was extremely productive with authorities sharing their approaches and activities as well as exploring what can be done to advance this agenda across the region.
An action plan has now been formulated, which includes:
- The forming of a Regional Task Group to look at composing an Employee Engagement Framework to share across the region.
- The sharing of policies and good practice across authorities. This has already been started with our Total Rewards Map, which provides links and details from across the region and our own website.
- An event to share the outcomes from the MacLeod review and showcase examples where Employee Engagement has made a real difference to organisational performance.
Information will be shared on the outcomes of the above over the coming months.
Two reports were also discussed on the day, which you may find useful:
In addition, Thank Goodness Itβs Monday, the video championing Employee Engagement from IDeA and Wychavon Council, can be downloaded
here.
The previous HRD Forum took place on 28 January, and focused on Equality and Diversity. For information and presentations from the day,

The HR Development Forum is open to anyone with an interest in the subject working within the HR/OD business in the public sector. There will be no more action notes or updates on outstanding actions. There will be a focus for each event - a theme with quality input; an opportunity to learn; to share and to develop ideas. A place to mix with a wider cross-section of people from across the sector from organisations large and small.
In addition, the afternoons are a time to create space for colleagues to discuss those issues which are challenges in their authority now and discuss ideas and strategies to move the agenda forward.
We hope that you will think that it is an opportunity too good to miss. A must for your diary. An event that will leave you with energy and enthusiasm to go back to work with a fresh outlook upon a current issue.
