Adult Social Care and Health Workforce Strategy

In April 2009 the Department of Health published Working to Put People First: The Strategy for the Adult Social Care Workforce in England.

This outlines the workforce implications of putting people first and provides a high-level framework to support the transformation of the adult social care workforce. The strategy is the result of collaboration between the Department of Health and its key partners in the adult social care sector.

The strategy builds on and replaces The Workforce Strategy Interim Statement – Working to Make it Happen, which outlined workforce issues at the heart of delivering on Putting People First. Six key themes have been identified as priorities for the workforce to deliver future services.

To support Directors of adult social care services in delivering strategy the Joint Improvement Partnership (JIP) has brought together existing strands of activity and supplemented them with additional resources to improve access, transfer of learning and overall impact. A letter to Directors explaining the support that is available is here. This has been organised around the framework of the national Integrated Local Area Workforce Strategy (InLAWS) programme.
